Useful Advice For Cutting Through LDPE Sheets

If you have LDPE sheets that are too big, cutting them down to the correct size might be necessary. These sheets aren't that difficult to cut through as long as you remember a couple of useful measures along the way.

Use Straight Edges When Marking Cut Lines

It's a good idea to mark cut lines on LDPE sheets because then you'll see where your cutting instrument needs to go. Just make sure you use a straight edge to mark the lines because then you'll be able to cut in a precise way each time.

You can use something traditional like a ruler or the edge of an object if it's completely straight. Then you can line the straight edge up on the LDPE sheets and mark your cuts accordingly. This type of planning will safeguard you from cutting the wrong sections.

Keep Scoring Until a Deep Groove Is Left Over

If you want cutting LDPE sheets to be a relatively convenient process, then what you'll need to do is score your cuts until they're deep into the material. That's going to make it easier to cut through the sheets accurately, whether you are using a handsaw or an automated power tool.

Getting deep into the LDPE sheeting when you are making these scores will not be that hard as long as you use something that is sharp. A razor blade could do the trick, for example. Just make sure you take multiple passes on the cut lines until you have pretty deep grooves left over.

Place a Sacrificial Material Underneath the LDPE Sheets

Before you cut through LDPE sheets, you first have to make some preparations. One of the most important is putting a sacrificial material underneath the LDPE sheets that you're cutting. This does some important things.

For one, it elevates the LDPE sheeting off the surface that you're working around. That is going to give you better clearance when you are manipulating a blade or cutting instrument over the LDPE sheets. Secondly, this sacrificial material will protect the surface beneath from getting cut. You can cut into the material without having to worry about damage because it's not needed for your project.

If you're planning to customize LDPE sheets by cutting them, you want to use the appropriate tools and techniques. Then you won't have to work as hard or worry about your cutting results leading to inferior LDPE sheeting.
