Choosing To Manufacture Better Products

Steel Tube Storage Solutions

Steel is used to produce durable materials that are resistant to corrosion. Hollow tubes can be used as support materials or to transport liquid or gas. If your construction or manufacturing needs rely heavily on oblong steel products, being provided with an adequate storage solution will prevent accidents and damage and will ensure that steel products remain classified.

A Cantilever Racking System

A cantilever racking system provides adequate storage for oversized items that may not fit on a pallet racking system. One end of a cantilever rack needs to be anchored to an immobile structure. The opposite end of this type of rack will be exposed and will contain a series of holders that steel tubes and other long and heavy materials can rest upon. Due to the open design of a cantilever rack, a forklift or another piece of machinery that is used to retrieve goods can access the end or sides of a rack.

The unobstructed access will allow a machine operator to identify the steel materials that they need, prior to retrieving them from the racking system. Structural steel or pipe materials that are going to be stored in your warehouse should be categorized by weight and diameter, prior to loading them onto a cantilever racking system. Keeping tubes and beams separated by size will make it easier for your warehouse employees to identify where a particular steel product is located. A labeling system can be used to mark the end of each holder.

A Caged Storage Container

If a smaller amount of steel tubes will be kept on the premises and a cantilever system won't be needed, a caged storage container will make a suitable storage alternative. A caged container may contain a wheel or plated base. If products will be moved about your warehouse, a wheeled cage will be needed. Otherwise, an anchored cage will be effective in keeping the materials safely contained.

Even a small amount of steel tubes that are stored on flooring can present a hazard to your workers. Keeping the steel tubes in a storage unit that contains four sides will prevent the materials from rolling away. The openings in a cage's walls will allow your staff to determine how many steel materials are on hand. To prevent theft of materials, especially when you will be using a storage cart on a job site, purchase a cage that contains a built-in locking system.
